What is the advantage of Valepsia LP
Due to the combination of salts (sodium valproate +
valproic acid) in a sustained release tablet, VALEPSIA
LP avoid the plasmatic peaks, assuring the regularity
of control of the patients, decreasing the risk of
crisis between dosis.
What are the necessary informations before taking
VALEPSIA LP
Do not take VALEPSIA LP in the following situations:
* Liver diseases
* Antecedents of severe liver disease mainly due to
drugs.
* Known allergy to the sodium valproate or similar
compounds.
* Hepatic porphyria
* Do not use with lamotrigin or mefloquim
How to take VALEPSIA LP
VALEPSIA LP is reserved for adults and children with
more than 17 kgs.
You must follow regularly the treatment prescribed
by your physician, without dosage changes and sudden
interruption of the treatment.
Recommended dosage: 1 tablet each 12 hours. In controlled
patients the dosis can be 1 tablet a day.
It is suggested take the full tablet, not divided,
with a glass of water or juice (not soft drinks).
What are the precautions with VALEPSIA LP
Do no stop the medication without medical recommendation.
The withdrawal of the treatment must be made gradually.
The sudden interruption (or a great decrease of dosage)
can cause reappearance of the crisis.
Inform your doctor if you have: sudden fatigue, loss
of appetite, dizziness, depression, vomiting, abdominal
cramps, renewal of epileptic crisis even with the right
treatment.
To respect the recommended dosis
To notify your doctor if you have a renal disease.
In case of surgery inform the surgeon and the anastheologyst.
This productc contains 46,2 mg. of sodium by tablet,
to be considered in a diet with low salt.
Children must avoid to take products with aspirin during
the treatment.
Pregnancy and lactation
Generally during the pregnancy and lactation is alway
advisable to consult your doctor, before taking a drug.
During the pregnancy, the treatment must be adaptated
by your doctor. Do no stop the treatment because the
risk of renewal of crisis, with posible consequences
for the mother and child.
Inform you doctor that is taking this product if you
want to breast-feed.
Efects on driving or to handle machinery
If you are drowsy, have caution when driving or handling
machinery.
What are ocasional side effects?
As all drugs, VALEPSIA LP can produce side effects.
Nausea, vomiting, gastric pain, diarrhoea, dizziness,
menstrual disorder, weight gain, mild bleedings (gums,
nose).
Rarely: trembling, muscular stiffness, cramps.
Very rarely: memory and attention disturbances, disorientation,
confusion
Exceptionally: renal and auditive disorders, skin rash,
edema.
Since this product can increase the weight a diet is
advisable.
How to conserve VALEPSIA LP
It is not necesary special conservation procedures

General advices
Epilepsy is a neurological disease. There is an abnormal
functioning, acute and transient of the electric
activity of the brain, translated to epileptical
crisis.
The crisis can be repetead during a time of the life
of the subjet. The way of the crisis presentation and
its evolution, are multiple: you doctor will prescribe
the more convenient drug adaptated to your case.
In order that treatment will be effective, you must
follow the indications of your doctor and respect them:
* recommended daily dosis
* time of intakes
* treatment duration, generally prolonged
* advices of life hygiene: avoid work excess, lack
of sleep, as well as the alcohol.
* The changes of the dosis and most important, the
sudden withdrawal of the drug can cause the renewal
of the
symptoms.
* Do not forget your medication when travelling
